School Ban Kok Nok Project

In addition to the Happy Home Patong project the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket in co-operation with AIG PRIVATE BANK LTD, Zurich, continues with community projects to support children in need.

Location:
The school is 75 km from Phuket airport in the Thung Maprauw district and caters for children from farmers and fisherman in the province of Phang Nga.

School information

The school of Ban Kok Nok is a primary school with 83 children catering for education from pre kindergarten to completion of primary . Children are age 4 – 12. The school has presently 83 children , 28 below the age of 6 and 57 children in the age group of 6 – 12. The school presently has 4 teachers and a care taker cook , the name of the principal is Mr. Arayun Kongchom.

Meals

Meals are provided to children and the daily allowance provided by the local government is Baht 10.00 per day, per child. This amount is totally insufficient to provide the children with proper nutrition. To provide the children with proper nutrient the daily meal allowance needs to be approx 22 – 25 Baht per child. The additional funds needed are Baht 25.000.00 per month.

During the 2008 IHG leadership conference , Ruengsak Sahakaew was awarded the IHG Hotels Group Hero Award for Community Services for his work with the Ban Kok Nok School.

Project

Holiday Inn Resort Phuket and Bank Zwei Plus with the support of one its Managing Directors Mr. Niklaus Siegrist, will continue to support the Ban Kok Nok school for 2009 by providing monthly Baht 25.000.00 provide better meals. In addition a special fund to support all children at the beginning of the school year with sports uniforms and sports shirts will be continued. We thank all the donors at the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket and Mr. Siegrist and his support , without them this project would not continue.

On January 22nd Mr. Siegrist paid a surprise visit to the Ban Kok Nok school and was warmly welcomed with a special southern dance by the school’s children.

New Project Pa Yang School

On 15 July 2009, the Terrazzo team of the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket selected the Pa Yang School in Phang Nga as a rural school in need of support. An amount of Baht 80,000.- was collected from among staff members from fund raising activities. With this amount of money, scholarships were provided and all Pa Yang school children received new sport uniforms and sport equipments. Holiday Inn Resort Phuket has now established the Pa Yang school project with aims to identify urgent needs of the children and to provide a monthly support for school meals, uniforms and sport equipment for the school.

Our goals by 2010 are for HIRP to co-sponsor both the Ban Kok Nok and Pa Yang schools with sufficient funds to provide all children with school uniforms, daily healthy meals and sport equipments.
All donations are without any administration costs to the schools and are audited by Price Water House Coopers auditors. All HIRP employees are engaged in the projects to ensure the children are supported and all funds are well spent.

Administration

No administration costs. A member of the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket team, Mr.Ruengsak Sahakaew, identified the needs for this school and initiated this project. Mr. Ruengsak, will visit the Ban Kok Nok school every 3 months, to view progress and to receive an expense sheet where the cost for meals and other areas are provided.
